Our Story
A busy mom, an inspired daughter, and an avid dreamer, Hi there, I am Chakshu and welcome to Ruhmee. We all have our stories and today I will share with you, a little bit of mine.
A few years back I was in a successful fashion career, enjoying my Friday nights and sleeping till late on my Sundays. Life was good but something was missing.
That void filled up, the day I held my baby girl in my arms for the first time. Her innocent little smile and fragile little body ignited the mama bear spirit in me. Suddenly, I became obsessed with my little one. She must have all the nice things, things that are not only good for her, but also good for the world she is growing up in. Things that are ethically sourced and have a story of their own. Limited things that can last her for a long time. Sometimes I was able to find them but most of the time I struggled.
As time passed by and we grew up together, her sense of wonder and curiosity kept inspiring me. The way she looked at me… as if I was all she got, took me back in time when I was my father’s little girl, mesmerised by his incredible talent of working with natural fabrics.

On long summer days and till late at night in India, with limited lights and historical machinery my dad would create beautiful pieces, with utmost care, attention, and love. Every piece was special, every piece was soo comfortable, every piece had a story to tell. Experiencing this beautiful memory was a light bulb moment for me, it was then when I decided to create Ruhmee and this is where our brand story truly begins. “Ruh” symbolizing soul and "mee" reflecting the individuality of each child.
For me to take my father’s legacy forward, I had to meet my roots again.
I had to go back to India. I booked my tickets said my goodbyes and started my journey. I spent endless days with my father and his team, learning, and understanding the traditional craft of fabric texturing. Getting awestruck by their unwavering dedication and attention to detail. Which material comes from where, which stitch means what, I experienced it all.
Breathing life into every stitch while taking care of the planet was very important to me so I decided to blend the nostalgia of the past with the innovation of the present.
